Gómez could become Palmeiras’ most decorated player if Paulistão is sealed

Palmeiras head into Sunday’s 2026 Paulistão final second leg with a 1-0 lead and can clinch a 27th state title with a draw in Novo Horizonte.

According to Nosso Palestra, the occasion could also bring a landmark for centre-back and captain Gustavo Gómez. If Palmeiras lift the trophy, the Paraguay international would reach 13 titles with the club, becoming their most decorated player.

Gómez currently stands on 12 titles, level with Weverton, Marcos Rocha, Mayke, Dudu and club greats Ademir da Guia and Junqueira.

He is already the captain with the most titles in Palmeiras history, having raised nine trophies with the armband, two more than César Sampaio, Ademir da Guia and Junqueira.

Since Felipe Melo’s departure in 2022, Gómez has led Abel Ferreira’s squad. By reaching this final, he has now played in 16 deciders for Palmeiras, matching Raphael Veiga for the most in the club’s history, having previously been level with Weverton on 15.

He has also made 362 appearances for the club, equalling former goalkeeper Marcos as the third most-used player for Palmeiras this century.
