Gustavo Gómez lifted the Campeonato Paulista on Sunday, and the 32-year-old became Palmeiras’ most decorated player with 13 trophies, moving clear of Ademir da Guia, Junqueira, Weverton, Marcos Rocha and Mayke.
He marked it by visiting the Allianz Parque trophy room to revisit the silverware won across eight years. According to Globo.com, he reflected on leadership after a year and a bit without titles.
At the club since 2018, he has become the leading voice in a refreshed squad, with 22 players earning their first Palmeiras medal in the triumph. He stressed a duty to help team-mates and to give everything in every training session.
He said he had found his place in the world at the club, citing shared values and a daily culture of hard work.
After a trophyless 2025 that brought three runners-up finishes, he felt the group needed this win to regain confidence and to savour success again, given how hard it is to win.
His record stands at 393 appearances, the most goals by a Palmeiras defender with 46, and the armband for a club-record nine titles. His honours include five Paulistas, three Brasileiros, two Libertadores, one Copa do Brasil, one Recopa Sul-Americana and one Supercopa.
Under contract until the end of 2027, he wants to add further silverware. He turned down lucrative 2023 offers from Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad, thanked president Leila Pereira and director Anderson Barros for a bonus, and said he stayed for stability, his connection to the club and family reasons.
