Santos have extended left-back Gonzalo Escobar's contract until December 2027, with the deal registered in the CBF's BID on Friday.
According to Diario Do Peixe, it is a two-year agreement with a possible extension if he plays at least 50% of matches in year two. His previous deal ran to December.
Escobar said it is a source of pride to represent Santos and their supporters, and pledged his usual dedication in the shirt.
The renewal was allowed despite a transfer ban on new signings, since extensions for current players are permitted. Talks lasted months before agreement, led by executive Alexandre Mattos.
Santos expected the deal, as there is no other senior left-back following the sale of Souza. Reserve Vinicius Lira is out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Alternatives include Rafa Gonzaga from the under-20s, or makeshift cover from Luan Peres, Ananias or Barreal. Pedro Saraiva has been tested for the academy but cannot be registered.
The 29-year-old Argentine joined in 2024 in a swap with Fortaleza that took Felipe Jonatan the other way. He has 103 Santos appearances with one goal, including 28 this season across domestic and continental competitions.
