NJ/NY Gotham FC did not have a good week last week. The Bats failed to win either of their CONCACAF W Champions Cup matches and ultimately had poor showings in the two games. So, they must follow the popular mantra from the TV show, Ted Lasso, and "Be a goldfish." The idea is that goldfish are constantly forgetting things due to a short memory, and that people should forget the bad and move on.
So for Gotham FC, they need to keep those games in the past and focus on winning at home in the final NWSL regular-season fixture until July. While the players are working toward the three points, there are stories to go over. So, here is the next Gotham FC news roundup.
In case one lives under a rock and does not follow Gotham FC on any social media platform, then it is important to know that the Bats will play a special game in Queens at Citi Field. The Queens Classic will take place on July 15, and the club has been advertising the match quite a bit. The players will play a rare game in the city, and they will play at a baseball stadium.
Meanwhile, Gotham is partnering with Grüns to provide 1,000 complimentary tickets to the Queens Classic. Per the club, "the ticket initiative will provide access to local youth-serving organizations and community partners committed to growing the game and increasing opportunities through soccer."
Truthfully, the NJ/NY team does not need to convince people to go, for there are already about 20,000 tickets sold and counting. But once again, Gotham continues to give back and bring people closer to the game.
The NWSL might be heading on their summer break, which aligns with the World Cup group round this June, but the United States women's national team will be back in action on June 6 and June 9. And, like multiple times over the last few years, Gotham FC will have quite a few players with the national team.
Five players were called up to represent the USWNT: Tierna Davidson, Rose Lavelle, Lilly Reale, Jaedyn Shaw, and Emily Sonnett. The players will play two friendlies against Brazil in Brazil. This is a rare road trip for the Stars and Stripes, for most friendlies are played in the United States.
Meanwhile, the fact that Lavelle was called up hopefully means she will be available for Gotham this weekend. The midfielder has been out injured, so this is promising for fans of both the Bats and the USWNT.
Additionally, the inclusion of Reale on the roster shows that she is still a fantastic left-back. The defender has not started often since she suffered a knock and missed a match. However, Emma Hayes still thought she deserved to be called up. Hence, maybe she should return to her starting role for Gotham FC this weekend in the NWSL.
