NJ/NY Gotham FC might have won the NWSL Championship about a month ago, but the team will be back in action before one knows it. The FIFA Women's Champions Cup will take place from January 28 through February 1, which means the Bats will play their first competitive match in just over a month. Despite some struggles in 2025, the upcoming year should be exciting.
Of course, there are still other aspects to cover about the club as the offseason progresses. Therefore, here is the next Gotham FC news roundup that includes the NJ/NY side's value amongst other teams and more.
Last week, Forbes released the top 25 of the most valuable women's teams throughout the world. Eight NWSL sides made the list, including Gotham FC. The Bats were ranked 23rd on the list, with the club being valued at $110 million.
Based on the investment from the team's CEO and one of the operating owners, Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, and some of the minority owners, it is not shocking that this is the case. The Tisch family is, of course, known for their ownership stake in the New York Giants, and the addition of them to the ownership a few years ago has helped the team immensely.
Still, most of the other NWSL sides on the list sit higher compared to Gotham. It would be good for the team to increase the value, but they would need more investors and need to increase attendance at home games. At the same time, the salary cap does impact what every team can spend, which is another story to focus on another day.
Gotham FC announced on Thursday that the club and RWJBarnabas Health extended the healthcare partnership. However, they did not reveal the length of the extension.
Still, per the Bats, "RWJBarnabas Health will provide comprehensive medical care for Gotham FC players, including primary and secondary sports medicine services, entry and exit physicals, network medical support, imaging services, dedicated club physicians and women’s health services. The RWJBarnabas Health sports medicine team will collaborate closely with athletic trainers and players on diagnosis, rehabilitation and injury prevention to optimize peak performance and on-field readiness."
Based on previous seasons, it appears this partnership has worked out well, for players do not return to the pitch until they are absolutely ready. Health must always come first, and Gotham understands that.
Ella Stevens missed most of the 2025 season due to injury, and it was believed that she would leave Gotham FC at the end of the season. So, the Bats confirmed that she was a free agent and would be leaving after two years with the club.
On Monday, it was revealed that Stevens signed with Boston Legacy FC. The new NWSL team signed her to a two-year contract, with a mutual option to renew afterward. Stevens will have a chance to return to 100% and ideally prove that she is capable of contributing the way she did with Gotham FC in 2024. Everyone at Skyscraper Blues wishes her all the best.
Jaedyn Shaw has not played a full season with Gotham FC, but she has already made an impact on and off the pitch. As a result, Women's Health did a feature on the player, focusing on her move from the North Carolina Courage to New Jersey and her success in her first couple of months with the team.
They talked about the unlikely championship run, the fact that the club works with companies that promote and empower female athletes and women in general, and Shaw's work with e.l.f. and her favorite products.
