The Portuguese Government has authorised a pilot allowing the sale and consumption of low-alcohol drinks at Saturday’s FC Porto v Torreense Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira in Coimbra, the Portuguese Football Federation said.
A joint order from Minister of Internal Administration Luís Neves, Health Minister Ana Paula Martins, and Culture, Youth and Sport Minister Margarida Balseiro Lopes permits the sale, distribution and consumption of low-alcohol beverages for the game, which starts at 20:15 at Estádio Cidade de Coimbra.
Proposed by the federation and validated by the Government, the pilot is part of preparations for the 2030 World Cup, which Portugal will co-host with Spain and Morocco, and is intended to assess whether alcohol sales in stadiums during the tournament are viable.
It may be replicated in future.
This is the 48th edition of the Supertaça, pitting national champions FC Porto against Torreense, winners of the Taça de Portugal. André Narciso of the Setúbal association will referee the match.
