Graham Potter has signed a new four-year deal to remain Sweden head coach until 2030. The Swedish Football Association announced it on Thursday, with World Cup play-offs set for 26-31 March. He has led the side for six months.
Appointed on 20 October 2025 after Jon Dahl Tomasson’s failed stint, the 50-year-old returned to familiar ground. He began at Östersund, taking them from the fourth tier to the top flight from 2011 to 2018.
The former Chelsea manager saw mixed early results last November. Sweden lost 4-1 in Switzerland, then drew 1-1 at home with Slovenia. They finished bottom of group B, reaching the play-offs via their Nations League pathway.
His terms were first extended in stages for the March play-offs and a possible American World Cup campaign, 11 June to 19 July. That has now been formalised long term.
Missing the 2022 World Cup and the last Euros, Sweden must beat Ukraine first. If they progress, Poland or Albania await for a 2026 berth. Qualification would place them in group F with the Netherlands, Japan and Tunisia.
