Leeds United claimed their first pre-season win with a 1-0 victory over Sunderland, Lukas Nmecha scoring as Tarik Muharemovic impressed.

Nmecha put Leeds ahead on 25 minutes, capitalising on poor positioning from Sunderland goalkeeper Melker Ellborg to squeeze in from 40 yards. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Muharemovic later led the ratings.

Sunderland’s best opening before the break fell to Brian Brobbey, who scuffed Reinildo’s cross.

Leeds made six changes at half-time and Sunderland refreshed most of their side around the hour, which fractured the contest. Daniel James and Anton Stach had half-chances but the Whites protected their clean sheet.

Player ratings included Alex Cairns at six, alert to danger though rarely stretched, and Joe Rodon at seven, good in the air and eager to support attacks.

Sebastiaan Bornauw was given seven, steady after an uncertain start in possession, while Muharemovic earned eight for sharp defending and calm use of the ball.

Jayden Bogle received seven for his forward thrust and crosses, and Sean Longstaff six after a busy display that brought little impact and some frustration with the referee.
