Following a well-deserved 3-2 Scottish Cup semi-final extra-time win over Glasgow City at Hampden last weekend, Celtic FC Women are back in action against league leaders Hearts this weekend.
Looking back at making the cup final for the season finale, manager Grant Scott said: “It made it easier to come back into work. You’ve got to enjoy those moments - they are not guaranteed in football.
“So, we had a good performance, a decent result and a nice occasion to look forward at the end of the season.
‘But it’s back to business, we’re going to enjoy it but move on quickly and focus on the next one, which, hopefully the girls are doing now.’
From the outside looking in, it may seem that the team are beginning to click at just the right time with the final now looming on the horizon, but the head coach added:
“For me it’s less about a click factor as I’m expecting that from the players every single day, and we’ve had to have those kinds of frank discussions when we’ve, all of us, let ourselves down.
“It’s maybe something to work on rather than a click, but it’s certainly something that we’re looking to keep building and take into the coming games for sure.”
And the coming games start this Sunday with the visit of an in-form Hearts side to contend with on the back of the Glasgow City game.
Scott said: “One thing is for sure - we’ll need to show that same character and resilience in the game.
“Probably the last time we played Hearts we showed zero of that. We were very disappointed with ourselves on the night, and we’ve just got to do better than that last performance.
“Hearts play a different style from most of the teams in the league, very mobile, very smart with their movement. So, we will need to be on it, but I’m looking for us to take the game to them as well this time.”
With the last three league games to play before the final, the spur is there for the players to fight for a place in the team, but their head coach said: “They should be showing that every day anyway.
“But I think having the final to look forward to, if there wasn’t enough motivation in them, they should absolutely be pushing the level higher and higher to get in that squad, that starting eleven.
'That’s one of the benefits, it means we’re not finishing the season on a nothing-to-play-for scenario.'
"The players should be training well. We’ve trained well this week so far. If they needed an incentive, it’s there for them.
“But that’s my standard for the group every single day, we should be at that level looking to get into the next matchday squad never mind cup finals.”
