Celtic FC Women booked their place in the last eight of the Sky Sports Cup with a 1-0 win over Spartans on Sunday afternoon.

Despite having plenty of chances, it was ultimately Casey Howe’s first-half goal which sealed the Hoops' place in the next round of the cup.

Speaking to CelticPlayer following the match, after coming away as winners, there were aspects of the performance which left Grant Scott and his squad frustrated.

However, ultimately, the Celtic boss was pleased to come away with another win, and a place in the hat for the quarter-final draw.

He said: “It was probably quite a frustrating game. I think we dominated the ball and territory throughout the match.

“If I was being critical, I think we were just a bit wasteful round about the final third, the penalty box area.

“A lot of shots were off. quite a few straight at the keeper and maybe a couple of poor choices in there as well.

'So, we probably made it a bit tighter than it needed to be across the 90 minutes, but first and foremost in a cup tie you need to get through and we've done that.'

"We're still building momentum with belief in the group, it’s a brand-new squad put together this summer.

“So, it's another win, another clean sheet, and we just keep rolling along.”

While there are areas the Celts will be aiming to improve upon, there were positive aspects from Sunday’s win.

That included the debut for academy youngster, Freya McIndoe, as Scott praised the youngster on her first competitive appearance.

“I'm delighted for Freya. I think at the club we've maybe missed the mark in the last couple of seasons with the development of the academy.

“Paul Brownlie is doing a great job with the full academy programme now and Freya's just one of the next recruits that we have a lot of belief in.

“There are a number of them just now that have been working with the first team in and out from time to time just to build up the relationship there.

“But Freya's excelling just now. She's been training a lot. She's very comfortable in the group and you saw her on the pitch today.

‘She is very composed and has a good enough fight about her to make things happen and defend properly when she needs to.’

"So, we've got high hopes for her, and I thought she did very well today.”
