Liverpool are making big changes to their attack.

We have seen Mohamed Salah depart on a free transfer - with an agreement reached to rip up his £400k per week contract.

Federico Chiesa is expected to join the 34-year-old in the departure lounge - with teams in Italy keen to bring the former Juventus forward home.

No first-team guarantees for Gakpo

Sporting director Richard Hughes meanwhile has wrapped up his first deal of the summer - paying €40m to sign the Spain and Osasuna winger Victor Munoz.

The 22-year-old prefers playing on the left - even if he is capable of filling in on the right-hand side too.

Given that a right-winger is the club’s preference - and there are plans to sign Yan Diomande - it is reasonable to assume the former Real Madrid youth will be provided with most of his football on the left.

It looks like the position is going to be very congested indeed with Cody Gakpo preferring to play there and Rio Ngumoha in line for more first-team opportunities next season.

Spurs open talks with LFC over Gakpo

Three into one won’t go however and it looks as though Dutch international Gakpo will be the one to lose out. According to a report in TEAMtalk the 27-year-old won’t be hanging around if he isn’t a first-choice player.

“He has no desire to spend the prime years of his career as a squad player,” the report reads.

The same report claims that Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi has come forward for talks with Liverpool over a deal for Gakpo.

Given that the former PSV captain signed a new, long-term contract extension last year worth a reported £250k per week this is going to be a monumental deal for Spurs to pull off.

Gakpo doesn't want to be a squad player

“Tottenham Hotspur have held discussions with Liverpool over Cody Gakpo as they assess whether the Dutch international could represent a better option than long-term target Savinho,” the report reads.

“Spurs have already spoken with Liverpool as they seek clarity on Gakpo’s situation and what it might take to bring him to north London.”

Liverpool all of a sudden are looking well stocked in the left-wing position. And once Hugo Ekitike recovers from his achilles injury there will be far fewer opportunities up top for Gakpo too.

He wants a key role and new coach Andoni Iraola is unlikely to be able to provide him with that. Therefore it looks ever more likely that Liverpool will sell Gakpo should the right bid materialise.
