Alex Greenwood insists she still has room to grow at City as part of an ‘exciting group’ challenging for top honours.
Our Club captain has signed a contract extension which will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2027.
One of City and England’s most influential players in recent years, Greenwood has amassed over 100 senior international appearances and figured in four PFA WSL Team of the Year squads across a decorated career so far.
But the defender is confident that she can still develop during her time at the Club, while also nurturing some of the top young talent at Andrée Jeglertz’s disposal.
“I like to do that without labelling it even as a mentor,” she says of her desire to offer advice to her team-mates.
“I’ve experienced so much in my career, I would regret not sharing that information with the younger players or those with so much potential in this team.
“I’m never going to tell them what to do, but I’d advise them on what the best option is, but I’m still learning myself.
“As much as I’ve played for lots of years and I’ve experienced so much in my career, I’m still learning too as a captain and as a player.
“I’m someone who will always look at myself first before I give advice to anyone else. I think the group is exciting and that’s another reason why I’m so happy to stay here.

“We’ve got so much potential and the young players coming through are so exciting and they keep you on your toes to say the least.”
City have enjoyed an excellent start to the 2025/26 season, sitting top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table with seven wins from our first eight matches.
Title success remains a huge ambition for Greenwood, and it’s one she believes the team are more than capable of achieving if we continue on the right trajectory.

She adds: “I really don’t believe we can’t not do it and that’s why I want to be here. I want to do it because I think the club deserves it.
“The team deserves it, but there’s one thing deserving it and another doing it and I do genuinely believe we can do that.
“I’m so positive about this team. We have short-term and long-term goals as a team, I do individually.
“For me personally, I’ll be lying if I didn’t say I really want to win the league with this club.”
