Olympique de Marseille are considering selling Mason Greenwood, their most valuable asset, to ease financial pressure this summer. According to L'Équipe, offloading the forward is among the options being weighed as the club prepares its accounts.
After a disappointing season that yielded only Europa League qualification, Marseille’s finances are under strain. The rebuild is set to begin with several departures to present the best possible balance sheet to the DNCG at the end of June.
New sporting director Grégory Lorenzi said a Greenwood transfer is one of the scenarios on the table. He added that any opportunity would be assessed alongside the positions of the club and the player to find the best outcome for all parties.
Despite Greenwood, 24, telling Ligue1+ he wants to stay, a move is being examined and could raise around €50m with three years left on his deal. There are complications, since Manchester United hold 40% of the player’s rights. A return to England does not appear likely after he was accused in 2022 of assault and attempted rape by his partner, who later withdrew her complaint.
His Marseille form has drawn interest from clubs in Spain, Germany and Türkiye. Gazzetta suggests that Roma are strongly interested, having already bought Robinio Vaz from OM in the winter window.
