Gregor Kobel's future at BVB is on the line

According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Gregor Kobel is expected to remain at Signal Iduna Park next season, despite interest from several clubs, including Chelsea, most recently. Even though Kobel is rumored to leave for a while now due to Dortmund's poor form throughout the season, matters allegedly changed in the past few weeks.

Internally, the board assumes that the Swiss goalkeeper will be in goal for the 2025/2026 season. However, this chess match would depend on Borussia Dortmund reaching the Champions League or the Europa League. Otherwise, there could be a rethink on Kobel's part if the club fails to qualify, but, for the moment, the player is 100% focused on BVB and is concentrating on the last few games.

Should Dortmund miss out on European competition, which does not currently appear likely, several personnel matters would remain unknown, including Kobel's. The Swiss keeper has been one of Dortmund's defensive pillars over the past few years, despite a decline in the current season. In the event of a departure from Westfalenstadion, BVB would have to either go to the market or find a solution within the club.

With Marcel Lotka's contract expiring in the summer, the only remaining option would be Alexander Meyer and Diant Ramaj, who would be finally arriving at the club following a loan season at F.C. Copenhagen. The German international was signed from Ajax in the winter and could become an alternative to Kobe if the Swiss decides to leave.

While this goalkeeper "domino effect" depends exclusively on European qualification, the last few matches this season would be key for Borussia Dortmund's transfer plans.
