Grêmio agree deal to sign 16-year-old defender Thiel from São Joseense | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, São Joseense have agreed the sale of 16-year-old centre-back Thiel to Grêmio, with the teenager in Porto Alegre for medical tests before a three-year deal.

He will initially join the under-20 squad. Grêmio are acquiring 50% of his economic rights, and the fee has not been disclosed.

The agreement also includes an option to purchase a further 20% in future, tied to performance targets and development triggers.

Despite his age, Thiel featured for São Joseense’s first team this season, making 12 appearances in the Brazilian Série D to accelerate his development.

Club executive Eduardo Grassi said the move reflects São Joseense’s plan to grow on and off the pitch by creating assets and completing a definitive market transition with Grêmio.

He added that Grêmio was chosen as the best fit for Thiel’s pathway and due to recent successful deals for defenders of a similar profile.

Grassi said at least four official offers from Brazilian clubs were rejected, and praised the youngster’s technical quality, game understanding, strength and maturity on and off the field.

The deal runs for three years with clauses that could trigger an automatic extension for a further three seasons, while São Joseense retain a potential sell-on benefit.
