Grêmio celebrate Weverton’s World Cup call-up with Porto Alegre billboards | OneFootball

Grêmio have installed billboards across Porto Alegre to celebrate goalkeeper Weverton’s call-up for the World Cup.

According to Globo.com, 38 locations around the city carry club-designed artwork on electronic panels featuring the player.

Speaking on Tuesday, Weverton said circumstances had aligned in his favour to pip Bento at the last moment. He added he suffered a brief fainting spell when head coach Carlo Ancelotti mentioned his name.

This is his second World Cup. He was in the 2022 squad and played 10 minutes in the 4-1 last-16 win over South Korea. He also featured at the 2021 Copa América and started in the 2016 Olympic gold triumph.

Before Tuesday’s session at CT Luiz Carvalho, team-mates and staff gave him a warm reception. The club created a custom World Cup album sticker for him, and the squad staged a light-hearted initiation, forming a corridor on the pitch.
