Grêmio confirm Marlon right-ankle fracture, five-month lay-off | OneFootball

Grêmio have confirmed left-back Marlon suffered a fracture to his right ankle in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Vitória. The club said in a statement the expected recovery time is five months.

The injury occurred in the second half at the Arena during the seventh round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, after a challenge with Caíque.

There was an immediate reaction on the pitch and in the stands. Grêmio’s Willian was seen in tears.

An ambulance removed him from the field as supporters chanted his name.

Surgery is scheduled for Friday afternoon at Hospital Moinhos de Vento in Porto Alegre, where he is already admitted.
