Grêmio have confirmed they will remain in Libra following a midweek assembly in Rio that brought clubs closer together. The club said in a statement that its board decided on Thursday to stay and to take an active role in the process.
The gaucho side had scheduled a Deliberative Council meeting to discuss switching to Forte Futebol União, but the assembly prompted a rapprochement and removed the prospect of a move.
The meeting in Gávea, Rio de Janeiro, also appointed Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista and Bahia CEO Raul Aguirre as new club representatives, with Harry Massis of São Paulo and Odorico Roman of Grêmio named as alternates.
Relations between Flamengo and Libra had soured late last year after Baptista criticised the bloc’s leadership and Palmeiras president Leila Pereira. The organisation responded by describing his comments as uncontrolled and negligent.
A court then froze funds at Flamengo’s request, later partially released to member clubs.
Grêmio said the bloc had re-established a unified agenda on issues central to Brazilian football, with a focus on building a single league with participation from the clubs and in alignment with the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol. It pledged to work for collective strength, a sustainable model and the development of the national game.
