According to Nosso Palestra, Grêmio have formally contacted Palmeiras and advanced talks to sign Weverton, having already reached an agreement with the player.
The clubs are now trying to align details to finalise the move. Palmeiras had been unhappy in recent days that the club approached the goalkeeper’s representatives directly rather than negotiating with them, given his contract runs to the end of 2026.
Palmeiras initially showed a desire to keep the number 21 in 2026 and signalled a possible renewal through to the end of 2027. A decision had been anticipated this week.
After Palmeiras’ Paulistão opener on Saturday, 10 January, head coach Abel Ferreira addressed his goalkeepers Carlos Miguel, Weverton and Marcelo Lomba. He said Weverton remains a Palmeiras player under contract, described him as the greatest goalkeeper in the club’s history, outlined his preference for two players per position of similar level and added he is happy with the options.
Talks remain active as the parties work towards agreement on remaining points. Weverton has been with Palmeiras since 2018.
