Grêmio football executive Bárbara Fonseca has been indicted by Civil Police for alleged racial insult against an Internacional supporter after the women’s Gre-Nal on 28 March. She denies the accusation.

The club said in a statement that it remains convinced by her account and that there was no racial offence, adding that staff were being abused by rival fans when the claim arose.

The match at Sesc Protásio Alves ended 2-1 to Grêmio. After the game, an Inter fan from the Camisa 12 group filed a police report alleging she shouted a racist slur near the pitch exit.

The intolerance unit DPCI heard 11 people during the inquiry, including the alleged victim and Fonseca. Three witnesses confirmed hearing racist abuse. Security camera footage was collected, but it did not capture the incident.

Police indicted her under Article 2º-A of Law 7.716/89, which covers injúria racial. The case has been forwarded to the judiciary for the next legal steps.

Separately, the Superior Sports Justice Court prosecutor has lodged a complaint against Grêmio and Fonseca under Article 243-G of the Brazilian Sports Justice Code for discriminatory conduct.

Possible club sanctions include points deduction and loss of home venue, a R$ 100,000 fine and an obligation to implement effective anti-racism measures. Fonseca faces a 360-day suspension and a R$ 100,000 fine, and the prosecutor has requested a preventive suspension until the complaint is heard.
