Grêmio intend to settle the debt that triggered their transfer ban in the coming days, with payment of R$ seven million to Granada possible from Monday, according to Globo.com.
As of Friday, the club had not secured the funds to close the case, and taking out a loan has not been ruled out.
The liability stems from the 2024 signing of Uruguayan striker Arezo for three million euros, R$ 17 million at the time. The club have already paid R$ 10 million.
The Tricolor have been under a transfer ban since November, which prevents them from registering new players. The previous administration led by president Alberto Guerra prioritised the debt in the budget but failed to raise the money.
Further debts could see Grêmio hit by another ban. River Plate-URU has taken a case to FIFA over an unpaid 150,000 euros, R$ 970,200, tied to Arezo’s loan to Peñarol this year.
