Grêmio drew 1-1 with Fluminense in the 20th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro 2026, with debutant Diego Caito rescuing a point. A Hulk penalty, given after Kannemann handled at a corner, opened the scoring, before Caito struck with a fine individual effort. Jovane Cabral, also debuting, delivered the pass that released him.
Globo.com reports that Caito was Grêmio's standout, while Kannemann's error undermined an otherwise steady back line. Goalkeeper Gabriel Grando was rarely tested and could not keep out Hulk's spot-kick.
Pavón again lacked precision with his final ball, though he held his position defensively. Gustavo Martins was largely untroubled. Marlon added quality with switches, combinations and depth with Amuzu, before Pedro Gabriel came on late due to Marlon's limited match sharpness.
Villasanti worked hard but often checked back rather than drive forward, and Noriega sat in front of the centre-backs to add protection. Nardoni saw a clear second-half chance saved by Fábio. Tetê missed the best first-half opening from an Amuzu pass, then chose the wrong option on a break after the interval.
Carlos Vinícius was isolated and had to drop away from the box, yet threatened when he was finally supplied. Enamorado injected energy down the right and combined well with Caito, while Braithwaite could not lift the midfield's tempo after coming on. Coach Luís Castro set up with three holding midfielders to curb Fluminense's play, then waited too long to introduce creativity, ultimately relying on Caito's spark.
