Grêmio said on Friday that the women’s team will stage home matches at Estádio Passo D’Areia, São José’s ground in the north of Porto Alegre, in a bid to bring supporters closer to the Mosqueteiras.
The move was confirmed by football executive Bárbara Fonseca at a press conference at Arena do Grêmio. She said the aim is to create a clearer sense of playing at home and to lift attendances.
The team had been hosting at CT Hélio Dourado in Eldorado do Sul. Arena do Grêmio will still stage some fixtures, subject to availability.
Fonseca added that a partnership with São José allows the club to cover all dates in the first phase, and she believes the players as well as fans stand to benefit.
The first match at the new venue is on Friday at 19:00 against Palmeiras, in the second round of the Brasileirão Feminino. The squad will familiarise themselves with the stadium before kick-off.
Head coach Cryo Leaes and his staff will adapt training to the demands of the synthetic surface. He acknowledged artificial turf can cause apprehension and said they will try to reduce any issues that could arise through regular exposure in training.
Estádio Francisco Novelletto, better known as Passo D’Areia, had a full pitch replacement in 2025. The updated surface has characteristics similar to Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro, used by Botafogo.
Preparation continues at the Centro Esportiva da Ulbra in Canoas, the team’s fixed training base this season.
