Griezmann to travel to Orlando, summer MLS move agreed with Atlético Madrid | OneFootball

Antoine Griezmann is set to travel to Orlando in the coming hours to finalise a deal with the city's MLS club. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, Atlético Madrid have approved the trip and will allow him to leave on a free transfer this summer.

The visit was agreed after he chose to stay until the end of the season, following Orlando executives’ trip to Madrid. He consulted Diego Pablo Simeone and Mateo Alemany, who asked him to finish the campaign.

Atlético face Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final on 18 April. They are also in the Champions League quarter-finals, where Barcelona await in the coming weeks.

Orlando had hoped to sign him before the MLS window shuts on 26 March, but the move will now happen in the summer. During the international break he will travel to the United States to sign and announce his arrival, coinciding with France’s friendly tour there before next summer’s World Cup.

He extended his Atlético contract to June 2027 to spread payment of his remaining year across two seasons, agreeing to help the club ease those obligations. In gratitude, Atlético have opened the door for him to seal his exit at season’s end.

Orlando City will make him a designated player on a three-year deal. After the campaign he will take a short break then relocate with his family, he has four children, and Atlético plan to name him their ambassador in the United States.
