Internal Affairs of the Guardia Civil has named captain Carlos V.B., a cryptoasset specialist, over suspected money laundering tied to businessman Francisco Javier Martín Alcaide, 'Nene', a friend of Luis Rubiales, who remains under investigation. According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the report was filed to the judge in the Supercopa case.
The submission to judge Delia Rodrigo, of Majadahonda’s Court of Instruction number four in Madrid, alleges he used his expertise and contacts to handle crypto investments from purported illicit funds linked to 'Nene'. Last week the judge requested the RFEF’s 2024 Economic Commission minutes.
A 21 May document states the officer converted large sums of cash into digital assets to avoid bank tracing, and exploited his position to access confidential information about court inquiries affecting his associates.
Investigators say 'Nene' and other suspects handed significant cash directly to the captain, who then took control of the funds and their conversion and investment. They place his role at the initial placement stage, moving money out of the formal financial system.
The report seeks judicial authorisation to seize electronic devices and other effects, and to search two premises of the BitBase exchange, calling the conduct central to asset concealment and severing links to their real owners.
It records that he told investors cash conversion would leave no bank trail or formal record, and advised keeping individuals unlinked to the funds. Two BitBase executives allegedly facilitated the cash-to-crypto process while skirting regulation.
Investigators add that his contribution was essential to detach the money from its holders, meeting the threshold for necessary cooperation. They also note he informally contacted a UCO officer assigned to the case seeking confidential updates, claiming to be cooperating with the unit.
