Pep Guardiola says Bernardo Silva is one of the best players he has ever coached.

Our Portuguese skipper has made a terrific start to the season and is leading by example week in, week out – as he always has since joining the Club in 2017.

And given the calibre of footballers Guardiola has managed over the years, when asked where he would rank Bernardo in his list of best players, the boss replied: “Top, high. One of the best. He can do everything.

“He doesn’t score too many goals or is not involved in all the assists. He has never done that, but he gives us and himself something that is not in the stats, and a lot of things that are incredibly valuable to us.

“Absolutely one of the best players I have ever trained in my career.”

And Pep was equally effusive over his goalkeepers. Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford.

Both joined the Blues in the summer and are competing for the No.1 jersey.

And Guardiola couldn’t be happier with either of his shot-stoppers.

“We have two incredible two keepers in Gigio and James” he said.

“I am really impressed with James Trafford; he is beloved and has grown up since leaving for Burnley.

“He worked with Vinny and Scott Parker. And Gigio. Always I say when you start at 17 with AC Milan, it’s because you are something special.

“All the players have qualified for the World Cup and hopefully Gigio can do it [as well].”

The Italian keeper has settled into City life superbly since arriving from PSG and Pep was asked whether that experience on the world’s biggest stages has been a major factor in the Blues’ fine start to 2025/26.

“Yeah,” said Pep. ”What happens in your life, you have experience. But that doesn’t mean you are going to do well, a lot of players with incredible experience can still make mistakes.

“As much as you are ready for the game, you have to play it. [He has adapted] quite well in terms of Premier League physicality.

“I don’t know if France is more physical than here. Players need time but the team has evolved and everyone helps everyone. Goalkeepers to strikers.”
