Pep Guardiola was pleased to have so many scorers in the 8-0 victory over Salford and they cannot rely on Erling Haaland for goals.

The FA Cup third round win was another proud day for our  Academy with James McAtee scoring a hat-trick and Nico O’Reilly also netting his first senior goal for the Blues.

Divin Mubama, who had previously appeared for the EDS scored on his debut, with Jeremy Doku also scoring twice and Jack Grealish on target.

Guardiola made nine charges to his starting line-up as he gave some rest to some of his first-team players including Haaland, who remained on the bench.

And the City boss was happy to have five different players on the scoresheet at the Etihad.

“Players that play up front have to deliver,” Guardiola said. “Not just [Jack], Erling, Doku, Savinho and Kevin [De Bruyne] when he plays there and Bernardo [Silva] when he plays there and Gundo (Ilkay Gundogan).

“You have to score goals and make assists - just to rely on the goals of Haaland is impossible.

“The biggest clubs that win the league have strikers that score goals like Sergio [Aguero] and Gabriel Jesus but also Riyad [Mahrez], Raheem [Sterling], Leroy [Sane], Gundogan.

“A lot of players score a lot of goals and we need that.”

While the City youngsters took much of the acclaim, Grealish will have been delighted to get his first goal of the season after a difficult time with injuries.

The England international also claimed the assists for Doku’s opener and McAtee’s final goal to finish off a productive day.

“I want the best for my players and I want them to perform well,” Guardioa added. “At the end they have to deliver.

“It’s not just Jack. I see him in the year of the Treble, he was a main player for us. After that he played less.

“I think about what he can do better and what we can do better. All the players that we have here, I know their best. They help us to win what we won.”
