Pep Guardiola says he has “no clue” about Rodri potentially joining Real Madrid after the midfielder suggested he would like to join the Spanish giants.
The 29-year-old’s current contract with Manchester City runs out in 2027, leading to speculation over his future. Fabrizio Romano reports that the club have tabled an offer to extend his stay at Eastlands.
Real reportedly remain interested in signing Rodri, who joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2019. If he rejects the new terms, then City would reportedly demand a big fee for him this summer.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner recently refused to rule out the possibility joining Real, despite previously playing for their local rivals.
Rodri told radio station Onda Cero he “needs to sit down and talk” with City but added he would one day “like to come back” to Spain.
He said: “There are more players who have taken that path. Not directly, but over time. You can’t turn down the best clubs in the world.”
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Guardiola batted away questions about Rodri’s comments.
“No clue,” the City boss said. “No opinion, because I don’t know the intentions of… I know the intention of the club and I think I know the intentions of him. But I don’t know.”
Guardiola’s own contract with the club also expires next summer, but he had even less to say about that subject when it was brought up. “I have spoken many times about that.”
