England star Marc Guehi is set for a free transfer in the summer of 2026, with Manchester City joining FC Bayern in the poker game

FC Bayern have been working intensively with Marc Guehi for months – but the poker for the England international threatens to become much more complicated for the Munich club. As the British Times reports, Manchester City have now also entered the race for the centre-back from Crystal Palace. This means that the competition for the German record champions is growing considerably

City, Liverpool, Real – the market is getting tight

Guehi is about to leave Crystal Palace. The 25-year-old will not be renewing his contract, which expires in the summer, and is therefore one of the most sought-after options on the international transfer market. In addition to FC Bayern and Manchester City, Liverpool FC, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are also said to have signalled their interest. An English international in his prime who is available on a free transfer remains a rare and correspondingly competitive commodity

In Munich, Guehi is seen as a possible alternative in the event that the contract extension with Dayot Upamecano should fail. Head of Sport Max Eberl had already openly admitted this strategic approach at the end of October, saying that the club must be prepared in the event that no agreement is reached with Upamecano – even if the clear aim is still to keep him

Bayern planning talks – City step up the pressure

According to information from Sky, Bayern are dealing „intensively“ with Guehi. The defender will be allowed to hold official talks with interested clubs from 1 January, and a personal exchange between Eberl and the player’s side is planned for the new year. However, the situation is changing noticeably with the arrival of Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s club in particular can put forward strong sporting and financial arguments – and thus increase the pressure on all other interested parties. For FC Bayern, the Guehi poker becomes a real race

One thing is clear: if Upamecano’s future is further delayed, Munich could be forced to act faster and more decisively in order to avoid falling behind in the race for Glasner’s protégé.
