Marc Guehi says England “should have carried on” attacking in their World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina.
The Three Lions went ahead through Anthony Gordon in the second half but were punished for sitting back too deep, as goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez secured a comeback win for Argentina.
“We should have carried on,” Guehi told BBC Sport afterwards.
“We should have carried on pushing. It kind of felt like we scored and the mentality was, go back, defend.”
England managed just 12% of possession between Gordon’s goal and Martinez’s late winner, with boss Thomas Tuchel criticised for his tactical changes during the game.
“I don’t know,” he replied when asked if he is confident England can get over the line in future. “It’s hard to think about the future right now. At this moment it’s just disappointment, that’s all.”
