Gui Negão: Love for Corinthians and possible record transfer

On the evening of last Thursday (5th), Corinthians hosted Capivariano at the Neo Química Arena, in a match valid for the sixth round of the first phase of the Campeonato Paulista and won by a score of 3 x 0. The goals for the Alvinegro were scored by midfielder Dieguinho, as well as forwards Gui Negão and Kayke, all in the second half. The three points placed the team in fourth position on the overall table with 11 points (three wins, two draws, and one loss – nine goals scored and five conceded).

Right after the end of the match, forward Gui Negão, who scored the second goal for Alvinegro and hadn't scored in just over four months, gave an interview to the press and commented on the goal play and Dieguinho's assist, with a cross to the near post: “I know that when Diego controlled and played it inside, I imagined he would either cross or shoot at the goal. So, if he shot at the goal, it was a shot here as an assist for me, and I managed to complete it into the goal“, he began.

In his presentation at Corinthians, the football executive, Marcelo Paz, said that in 2026, the club intends to make the biggest sale in its history. In its squad, the Alvinegro has some talents with this potential, such as Gui Negão, Breno Bidon, André Luiz, Dieguinho, and Kayke. The club's number 56 from Parque São Jorge stated that he will work towards this.

“Man, if God wills it, right? I will work for it, but there are many, many boys who can be the biggest sale in history. There's Diego, Kaique, Breno too. So, if God wills it, may they be the five biggest sales of Corinthians“, he added.

Later, he emphasized the importance of psychological work to overcome the period without scoring with the Corinthians shirt and, consequently, the difficulties in not letting it affect his performance on the field: “The mind becomes a maze because many things we go through here, even though I've been here for a few months, almost a year as a professional. So we always have to work on the psychological aspect, it's something that counts a lot, it's very important. As I said, you'll always be in a good moment, then soon a bad moment will come, you have to work on your mind. So I think it's something I've been working on well,” he said.

He added: “I'll tell you that generally when an athlete moves up to the professional level, they have an adaptation period. I think my adaptation period was the time I started scoring a lot of goals. We always think, everything is going well, scoring goals, keep it up. But no, you always have to work, always think ahead, because with all this time without scoring, internal and external pressure starts. But I kept working, may God bless me.”

The young forward also commented on returning to the bench with the returns of Yuri Alberto and Memphis Depay among the starters, in addition to Pedro Raul, who is returning from a loan after standing out at Ceará in 2025. Furthermore, the forward responded on how he sees himself in 10 years: “I'll say that going back to the bench is not bad. Being a reserve for these two good players. Now it's about working so that soon, maybe, I can play again too. Or they play on Sunday, and I play on Wednesday, so everything is fine. It could be to be playing.”

“Man, I can say that I see myself successful with titles too, with many goals, right? With many individual and collective awards too, important titles. I'll tell you that in about 10 years, I'll be 29, maybe I'll be returning to Corinthians, God willing. I was talking to my friend Thiago the other day, there are people who go through several teams and aren't champions anywhere, so thank God I had this privilege, God willing, I hope to continue lifting titles.”

Finally, Gui mentioned the importance of forward Memphis Depay for the young players in the daily routine at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava and on the field: “So, as he's a very experienced guy, he has an incredible experience, and he always tries to pass it on in his Portuguese, right? But he always talks to us, whether we're in a good moment or a bad one, today he talked a lot with me too. He hugged me, said that today the goal would come, and thank God it did,” he concluded.

After defeating Capivariano in Itaquera, Corinthians remains focused on the Campeonato Paulista. Next Sunday (8th), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will host Palmeiras at the Neo Química Arena for the seventh round of the first phase of the state championship. Currently, the Corinthians team is in fourth place, two points behind the leader Novorizontino, with 13.

Gui Negão's Journey in Corinthians' Professional Team

Gui Negão was promoted to the professional squad of Corinthians at the end of the first half of 2025, when Dorival Júnior was already the team's coach – hired at the end of April. His debut occurred in June, and three months later, he was decisive in Alvinegro's qualification for the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil, as he scored in both matches against Athletico-PR in the quarterfinals.

In recent months, he had been fluctuating in performance and even lost his place in the Corinthians squad. In total, with the Corinthians shirt, he has scored six goals and provided two assists in 29 games (18 as a starter). The Son of Terrão, even with less than a year as a professional, already has two titles: Copa do Brasil (2025), against Vasco, and the Supercopa do Brasil (2026), against Flamengo.
