According to AS, Guido Rodríguez has been named in Argentina's 55-man provisional World Cup squad after strong form for Valencia.
The tournament begins in June and will be staged in Mexico, the United States and Canada. Coach Lionel Scaloni has submitted the long list.
The Valencia midfielder is a World Cup and Copa América winner, yet he has not played for the national team since 2024. He featured for 13 minutes against Peru in the final group match on 30 June 2024.
He was later called in September 2024 for World Cup qualifying but did not get on the pitch.
Rodríguez is out of contract at Valencia on 30 June and, at 32, an extension appears unlikely, with his representatives seeking significant terms.
Ron Gourlay has said talks over a renewal took place, though no agreement has been reached. Inclusion on the prelist, and any subsequent place in the final 26, could further raise the cost of the operation.
