Guido Rodríguez’s proposed move to Valencia CF remains alive, the Argentine will not go to the 2026 World Cup.

According to Superdeporte, his absence should ease Valencia’s negotiations, since a World Cup run could have delayed talks and attracted extra competition.

A second chance did not arrive. Despite a strong second half of the season under Carlos Corberán, he was not picked to fill the spot opened by Leonardo Balerdi’s injury.

Lionel Scaloni instead called Tottenham Hotspur defender Marcos Senesi, opting for a like-for-like change and ending talk of adding a midfielder.

It is the second time Guido Rodríguez misses the global showpiece, even though he was part of the title-winning group in Qatar 2022. Senesi joins the 26 who will represent Argentina, while Guido waits for another opportunity with the national side.
