Guillermo Ochoa, 40, has been named in Mexico’s 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup and, barring mishap, could become the first goalkeeper to play at six tournaments. Coach Javier Aguirre confirmed his list on Sunday for the finals running from 11 June to 19 July.

According to L'Équipe, Ochoa first appeared on the World Cup stage in 2006 and El Tri open against South Africa on 11 June at 21.00.

The AEL Limassol goalkeeper is joined by forwards Raul Jiménez of Fulham and Santiago Giménez of AC Milan. In total, 12 players in the squad have previous World Cup experience.

Two naturalised players are included, midfielder Alvaro Fidalgo, of Spanish origin, and forward Julian Quinones, who is Colombian-born. The youngest call-up is midfielder Gilberto Mora, 17.

Co-hosts Mexico, alongside the United States and Canada, will face South Korea on 19 June at 3.00, then Czechia on 25 June at 3.00 in Group A.

Ochoa previously played for AC Ajaccio from 2011 to 2014.
