Guiseley are eyeing an FA Cup lift this weekend, hosting Bradford (Park Avenue) in a derby at Nethermoor Park and chasing a bumper crowd during the international break.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, it is a third qualifying round tie. A win would leave Guiseley one step from the first round proper, and the visitors are a division below with an unbeaten start.
Guiseley have opened strongly, beating Bamber Bridge 4-2 in the FA Trophy last weekend. In the league they have six wins from nine, sit fourth and are only a couple of results behind leaders Cleethorpes Town.
Nine league games have produced 32 goals, and they eased past Hebburn Town 4-1 in the previous FA Cup round. Pickles describes a front-foot approach that brings goals, while accepting they could keep a few more clean sheets.
Pickles says promotion remains the aim, whether as champions or via the play-offs, though the FA Cup is among the season’s highlights. A first-round tie with Bradford City, or an ex-Premier League club from League One, such as Leicester or Portsmouth, would be a dream.
The club have gifted season tickets to under 14s to bring families through the gate. A nine-year-old supporter inspired the Lions passport scheme, encouraging players to chat, sign autographs and pose for photos with youngsters.
Average crowds are around 700, and Pickles hopes the derby can top 1,000 and tempt newcomers back. With a derby, a bigger occasion and two teams going well, he says it should be an exciting game.
