Sheffield United ace Gus Hamer has attracted transfer interest from Turkish Super Lig giants Trabzonspor

Sheffield United are set for a major rebuild this summer, which is set to witness key arrivals and prominent departures in the transfer market.

The Blades endured a largely underwhelming Championship campaign, finishing 13th in the second tier despite winning three of their last five matches.

Chris Wilder has been unable to establish consistency at Bramall Lane this term, having returned to the dugout following Ruben Selles' poor stint in charge at the beginning of the season.

Wilder knows that there is plenty of work to do this summer to re-establish Sheffield United's promotion credentials and isn't afraid to make big personnel decisions.

The South Yorkshire outfit reached the Championship play-off final in 2025, but they weren't even close to emulating that sort of relative success this term.

Gus Hamer's Sheffield United transfer call set to hinge on key Trabzonspor figure

Wilder has already proven he will make bold choices this summer, with several Sheffield United supporters annoyed by Jairo Riedewald’s exit.

Riedewald made 25 Championship appearances for the Bramall Lane club this term, scoring two goals in the process, which came against Norwich City and Stoke City.

The 29-year-old's release may not mark the Blades' only midfield departure this summer, as Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield's Football Heaven show last month that Sheffield United are open to selling Gus Hamer and Sydie Peck ahead of next season for the right price.

Peck has established himself as a key figure at Bramall Lane since becoming a regular feature last term, while Hamer has been a major attacking asset in the last three seasons.

The Dutchman made 27 Championship starts for Wilder's men this term, nine fewer than he managed during the 2024/25 campaign in which he helped his club reach the play-off final.

In the winter window, transfer expert Ben Jacobs revealed via X that Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor, La Liga outfit Sevilla, and Serie A side Cremonese were all keen on the former Coventry City star.

Now, according to Turkish outlet Aspor, Trabzonspor have renewed their transfer interest in Hamer, and their final decision will be made based on manager Fatih Tekke's approval.

Tekke's men finished third in the Super Lig this term, eight points adrift of champions Galatasaray, and take on Konyaspor in Friday's cup final.

Sheffield United could live to regret Gus Hamer exit following end-of-season form

Hamer's attacking numbers have remained decent, as he scored five goals and registered 12 assists in the Championship this term, following last season's return of 10 goals and eight assists.

He is often utilised out wide, and Sheffield United would have a more dynamic attack if they had an out-and-out winger rather than the 28-year-old in their starting lineup, which is a factor that may have influenced the fact that Wilder is open to parting company with him.

However, the former Coventry man was in strong attacking form at the end of the season, notching an assist in the final day victory over Derby County a week on from scoring in a defeat to Preston North End, which marked the Blades' last home game of the campaign.

The 28-year-old's recent form suggests that Wilder's men could regret parting company with him if they struggle for goals at the start of next term.
