Santos drew 1-1 with Corinthians at Vila Belmiro in the sixth round of the Brasileirão on Sunday 15. According to Diario Do Peixe, assistant coach Gáston Liendo praised midfielders Gustavo Henrique and Christian Oliva.
Both started for Santos for the first time and were substituted together at 34 minutes of the second half.
Liendo said they performed well within a midfield three with wide players, highlighting that long switches to the flanks were executed and the team stayed compact. He added the overall display pleased the staff, though there is still room to improve.
He also noted that one has significant potential and the other, in only his second senior appearance, handled the responsibility.
Gustavo Henrique had made his debut as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 win over Novorizontino at Vila Belmiro on 10 January, in the first round of the Paulistão. Having featured in the Copinha, he has aged out of the youth ranks and is training with Vojvoda’s squad.
Christian Oliva recently joined Santos and first appeared off the bench in the 2-2 draw with Mirassol at José Maria de Campos Maia in the last round of the Brasileiro on Tuesday 10. His registration took time because of the transfer ban.
