Gustavo Henrique has suffered a right hamstring injury and will miss Santos’ upcoming matches, with no return date set. Diario Do Peixe reports that tests confirmed the problem and the midfielder has started physiotherapy at the club.
He began the game as a starter but was forced off eight minutes into the second half of the 2-1 defeat to Botafogo at Nilton Santos, in the 19th round of the Brasileirão on Thursday 16. He left the pitch in tears.
In April he sustained a separate muscle injury, in the left adductor. Known as Gustavinho, he played his final Copinha in January, featuring in five games, then stepped up to the first team after ageing out of the academy.
He was valued by former coach Vojvoda and has continued to see minutes under Cuca. He made his senior debut as a second-half substitute in the 2-1 win over Novorizontino at Vila Belmiro in the Paulistão opener on 10 January.
Since then he has made 16 first-team appearances, one in the state championship, two in the Copa do Brasil, four in the Sudamericana and nine in the Brasileirão.
During his youth days he occasionally filled in at right-back. He started at Independente, had a spell with Corinthians, and has been with Santos for eight years.
