Viktor Gyokeres insists that Arsenal have even more hunger to win the Premier League again this season after their title win during the last campaign.
The Swede was a major part of the Arsenal team that won their first league title in over 20 years, scoring 14 goals in the Premier League.
He was asked whether last year’s success has given the team even more drive to win this season,
“Yeah, we have more hunger,” he answered.
“You can think about it in a million different ways. You can think about you have to do this or that or whatever it is, if it’s harder or not, I don’t know, but it’s still going to be difficult to win the league.
“Even if you won it last season, I think it’s still a big challenge because it’s the best league in the world.
“There’s a lot of teams that are in very good shape and have very good players, so it’s always going to be difficult. And yeah, we won it last season, and we’re going to try to win it this season as well.”
However, before the season starts, Mikel Arteta’s side face Manchester City in the Community Shield. Despite the title often being called a friendly, Gyokeres is determined to get another one over Arsenal’s rivals.
“I don’t know what other people think, but of course we want to win that game for sure. There’s no question about that,” he explained.
The 28-year-old was speaking after Arsenal lost 3-2 in a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund. Even though they lost the game, there were still positives for Arsenal fans as new signing Bruno Guimaraes was introduced to the fans before kick-off.
“We’re all very happy that he is here,” Gyokeres said about his new teammate. “He’s an extremely good player, and I think he will bring a lot of energy and his qualities to the team. I only have positive things to say about him.”
