From Erling Haaland to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lucas Chevalier, leading names marked Christmas with family photos and playful posts. According to L'Équipe, stars across Europe shared glimpses of their celebrations before some return to action this weekend.

Ronaldo, Instagram’s most followed figure with 669 million followers, ahead of Lionel Messi on 511 million, posted a video with his wife and five children and offered a message about hope, love, family and light, wishing a merry Christmas.

French internationals were largely quiet online. Lucas Chevalier posed in the mountains with his partner, Brice Samba spent the holidays in Dubai and reposted pictures with relatives, while Lucas Digne and Lucas Hernandez also shared family shots.

Neymar, after successful left knee surgery on Monday, and Robert Lewandowski, used sparingly in recent weeks at Barcelona, uploaded family pictures, while Manuel Neuer spent the break on a beach. Marco Verratti posted alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Paris Saint-Germain sent seasonal greetings to supporters, as many clubs did.

Mohamed Salah, in Morocco for the Africa Cup of Nations, shared a photo of his two daughters and wished a merry Christmas.

Haaland opted for an all black look on Christmas Eve and, referencing Pep Guardiola’s plan to monitor players’ festive weight, posted a scale reading 94.4 kg with a note that all was fine. Gianluigi Donnarumma reacted with amusement and sent his family’s Christmas wishes to everyone.

Haaland also appeared in a Santa outfit. Manchester City are due back at Nottingham Forest on Saturday at 13:30.
