Bild reports that Hannover 96 are in advanced talks with VfB Stuttgart over Silas Katompa-Mvumpa. The winger has not played this season, and with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign, Stuttgart have to settle for a low fee.
Silas scored 11 goals in his debut Bundesliga season before suffering an ACL injury in March. Subsequent injuries, along with a false identity case linked to wrongdoing by a former agent, stalled his progress.
On loan at Red Star last season, he scored two Champions League goals and helped the club win the Serbian league. A permanent transfer did not materialise, so he returned to Stuttgart.
The 20-time DR Congo international will most likely remain in Germany, with Werder Bremen, Hamburg and Schalke showing interest in a winter move.
Hannover, who are in contention for promotion to the Bundesliga, are currently leading the race.
