Hansi Flick again hints at new position for Barcelona star this season | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Friday hinted once more that a member of his defensive ranks has emerged as an option to fill a new position this coming season.

The player in question? Gerard Martín.

Martín, of course, is fresh off something of a breakout season in Catalunya’s capital last time out, which saw the Spaniard thoroughly impress from his berth at left-back.

During pre-season, however, the 23-year-old was on multiple occasions shifted into a new role, at the heart of Barcelona’s defence.

This is a position in which Martín frequently tested his talents at reserve level over recent years.

With Iñigo Martínez no longer at his disposal, the possibility of Martín being used at centre-back on a consistent basis this coming season was on Friday therefore put to Hansi Flick once more.

And the German tactician went on to explain:

“I don’t think we need reinforcements. We’ve seen how Gerard Martín has performed at center-back. He’s a good option. I like versatile players.”
