Hansi Flick declares Barcelona star as a contender for the Ballon d’Or | OneFootball

As we start making our way toward the end of another season, most people have a good idea of who have been the standout performers during this campaign.

With this comes plenty of discussion of who might pick up the Ballon d’Or award come October, when France Football and UEFA will once again hand out the most prestigious individual award in football.

Barcelona’s coach Hansi Flick has come in with an early suggestion, as he has declared one of his most prolific stars as a contender for the prize.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Raphinha is the player in question, with the Brazilian star having notched an impressive 25 goals and 16 assists in 40 appearances for Barça so far this season.

The 28-year-old is currently an outsider for the award, behind the likes of Mohamed Salah, Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Jr., but there is no reason he can’t be in with a shout if he continues to perform during the final stages of this season.

“Of course, if he does well this season he could have a chance. He always helps us a lot, and if you see the goals he has scored it shows you how hungry he is. It’s good to see how focused he is. I’m happy with his level.” Flick said when speaking in his press conference ahead of his side’s clash against Benfica.
