Hansi Flick open to renewing contract as Barcelona target extension until 2028 | OneFootball

It has been a year and a half since Hansi Flick took charge of Barcelona and safe to say, and it has been quite a successful tenure so far.

The German tactician has added cohesion and grit to the Barcelona setup, playing a key role in shaping the fortunes of many individuals, including the likes of Raphinha and Fermin Lopez.

However, Flick’s contract expires in 2027, which has created much anxiety within the Barcelona ranks, who want the coach to continue beyond.

Barcelona’s proposal to Hansi Flick

A recent report from COPE has offered an update on Hansi Flick’s future at Barcelona.

As per the report, the club have officially sounded out the manager to see if he would be willing to stay on for another year, extending his tenure until 2028.

It must be noted that Flick’s initial plan was to simply fulfil his current contract and retire upon its conclusion in 2027.

However, the report suggests that in this latest inquiry, the German has shown himself to be more open to renewing his deal, though he remains in no hurry to make a definitive decision.

Recent reports suggest Barcelona will hold decisive talks with Flick in early 2026.

Flick’s fortunes tied to Laporta?

Flick’s growing openness stems from his happiness in Catalonia. He is reportedly delighted with the sporting project, specifically the talent emerging from La Masia, and his family has settled perfectly in the city.

His wife, daughters, and grandchildren – who often visit the training ground – consider Barcelona the ideal home.

Most importantly, however, Flick’s future appears tied to Joan Laporta. It appears the coach is in perfect harmony with the president and Sporting Director Deco, crediting Laporta for his arrival.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see if Flick would agree to extend his stay should Laporta fail to win the next elections.
