When Barcelona flew to the USA last summer for their pre-season tour, Hansi Flick took a number of young talents from La Masia along with the senior squad.
One such talent who was given an opportunity and made a big impression was Toni Fernandez, who had just turned 16 years old at the time.
Even after returning from the tour, the young attacker remained in the first-team dynamics before eventually returning to Barça Atletic.
Now, according to SPORT, Hansi Flick is set to call up Toni Fernandez to do the pre-season once again with the Barcelona first-team setup.
The 16-year-old attacker continues to be on the German coach’s radar. He was included in several squads this season and even made his official senior debut in the Copa del Rey clash against UD Barbastro in January.

As such, Toni Fernandez has been informed that he is expected for medical tests with the first team on 13 July.
Flick has met this week with the academy players who will be part of the senior squad from the start of pre-season. Pedro Fernandez, Juan Hernandez, and Jofre Torrents are some of those talents and Toni too will be involved.
Toni knows he has a real opportunity to earn a spot in the first team for next season. He benefits from the fact that Flick already knows him well from last summer and has continued to track his progress throughout this campaign.
Even though he is a wide player, the 16-year-old was used in the attacking midfield position with Barça Atletic following the January exit of Unai Hernandez, and he delivered his best performances there.
Flick values the personal and physical development Toni has undergone in recent months. And with Pau Victor and Pablo Torre expected to leave, a clear path has opened.
