Hansi Flick shuts down Ter Stegen chatter after surprise appearance vs Guadalajara | OneFootball

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has moved to play down the significance of the start afforded to Marc-André ter Stegen in the club’s latest outing.

This of course comes after Flick surprised the masses in opting for his fellow countryman over Wojciech Szczęsny.

With Joan García rested for a Copa del Rey meeting with Guadalajara on Tuesday night, the widespread expectation was that no.2 Szczęsny would be the man to take over between the posts.

Upon Barcelona’s XI being announced, however, it was Ter Stegen who was given the nod.

As much gave rise to inevitable suggestions that the German may have worked his way back into Hansi Flick’s plans for the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking to the media on the back of his side’s 2-0 triumph, the subject of as much was therefore put to the Blaugrana headmaster himself.

Flick, though, was quick to assure:

”Ter Stegen? This decision is only for this match. We said we would give him the opportunity to show that he was back. That’s all, nothing more.”
