FC Barcelona were once again at their top form, at least offensively, as they beat an in-form Real Betis side with a 5-3 scoreline in their latest La Liga game on Saturday. Ferran Torres scored a hat-trick in this game, but the overall performance of the team must have been an encouraging sign for Hansi Flick.

In fact, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German coach spoke highly of the Blaugrana team as he talked to the media after this win. He also admitted that his team looked a bit tired in the second half, but overall, he assessed this performance quite positively:

“I think the first half was very good, but in the second half, we were tired. Defensively, we weren’t able to control the final minutes of the match. But I want to stay positive in my assessment, although we will analyze it. The important thing is that we won.”

The German tactician specifically highlighted the Barcelona team’s fighting spirit:

“I’m very happy with the team. They fought back after going a goal down. They had a great first half and finished exhausted. They fought for 90 minutes, and I appreciate it.”

The Blaugrana coach was particularly happy with this win because of the quality of the opposition:

“It’s always important to win. It’s not always easy against a team like this, very technical and with fantastic players. But the way we played in the first half is very positive.”

Flick also praised the way Lamine Yamal has polished his defensive game:

“He was good, also defensively. He worked together with the rest of his teammates. He’s one of the options we have (as an attacking midfielder). He has grown a lot and is improving in defense. He’s a fantastic professional.”

It must have been a memorable game for Roony Bardghji in particular, as he not only got a start but also scored a goal. The German coach revealed how the decision to start the Swede was taken:

“It was an option. We asked him if he wanted to play there, and he said yes, that he would try it. He was happy… He gives us many options.”

Ferran Torres was undoubtedly the most prominent player in this game, and Flick also spoke very highly of him:

“He is a very intelligent player. He knows how to read spaces very well, and today he did it fantastically. His mentality and confidence are excellent. This is the path to follow. He deserves to be in the starting eleven. He is always there when he’s needed. This stadium is Ferran Torres’ stadium, also when he plays with the national team, where he also scored a hat-trick.”

Overall, the Blaugrana coach was happy with the improvement shown by his team, but wanted even more going forward:

“I focus on training. If you’re at 70–80%, you play the matches like that. The intensity this past week has been very good. And I believe this is the path to follow based on what I saw… We go step by step. Now it’s time to celebrate, but the next match is already on Tuesday against Frankfurt at home.”

There is no doubt that this was a highly encouraging win for Barcelona, but more challenges await the Blaugrana side, and hopefully, Hansi Flick will be able to continue getting the best out of his team going forward.
