La Liga giants Barcelona will be forced to make do without manager Hansi Flick for their opening fixture of the upcoming Champions League campaign.
This comes after the German tactician was hit with a ban on the part of the tournament’s organisers, UEFA.
As much relates to the behaviour of Flick and his staff en route to Barcelona being sent packing from the Champions League this past season.
The Blaugrana were of course eliminated from Europe at the semi-final stage, owing to a heartbreaking extra-time defeat at the hands of Italian heavyweights Inter Milan.
Over the course of the 120 minutes at San Siro, the visitors were left feeling altogether aggrieved by several refereeing decisions.
And as alluded to above, in his protests against as much, Hansi Flick has since been deemed by UEFA to have taken things a step too far.
As per a report from Marca:
‘Hansi Flick has been fined €20,000 and banned for one match in UEFA club competitions for breaching the general principles of conduct (Art. 11(1) DR) and violating the basic rules of decent conduct (Art. 11(2)(b) DR).’
Flick’s assistant, Marcus Sorg, has been hit with the same sanction.
