Harrison Jones has left Sunderland for Peterborough United on a three-year deal, posting a farewell message that thanked the Black Cats. The 21-year-old midfielder used Instagram to mark his departure.

Sunderland Echo understands the move is a free transfer, with a sell-on clause for Sunderland. Jones joined the academy aged six and made seven senior appearances.

He said he was delighted to join Posh and grateful to Sunderland for his development, adding that leaving was difficult but felt right to play regularly. He also wanted the move completed before pre-season to help him settle.

Team-mates responded, with Luke O’Nien calling him a legend, Chris Rigg and Trai Hume wishing him good luck, and Dan Neil replying with a heart emoji. Jones spent last season between the first team and under-21s.

He was named on the bench for several Premier League games in 2026, including against Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa. He described himself as a versatile midfielder who learned humility and different roles at Sunderland.

His exit comes amid academy changes under Florent Ghisolfi, with contract options triggered for Zak Johnson and Timur Tutierov, John Hewitson appointed academy manager, and Graeme Murty set to leave his under-21s post.
