Manchester United starlet Harry Amass has suffered a major blow just one week after joining Championship hotshots Norwich City.

From the Owls to the Canaries

Amass spent the first half of the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday after swapping Old Trafford for Hillsborough in the summer.

The 18-year-old full-back endured a miserable start to life in the Steel City, scoring an own goal on his debut against Bristol City in a 3-0 defeat.

But he quickly found his feet in Henrik Pedersen’s side, playing as a left wing-back with the freedom to roam forward and utilise his outstanding technical ability, which has drawn comparisons with Luke Shaw.

Amass would go on to win back-to-back Player of the Month awards for the Owls – with the youngster offering a rare bright light in an otherwise miserable campaign for Wednesday fans.

United recalled the left-back in January after the loan expired, though there was optimism at Hillsborough towards agreeing a new deal, despite interest from Stoke City and Watford, the club he started at before joining the Red Devils.

However, in a sharp twist, Norwich emerged as frontrunners for Amass after holding positive talks with United, and a deal was quickly agreed until the end of the season.

Major injury blow

Amass made his debut for the Canaries as a substitute in the impressive 2-1 win over table-toppers Coventry City, making a strong impression in the final period of a tense match.

But a devastating development has now leaked out of Carrow Road, with Norwich manager Philippe Clement revealing Amass had suffered a “serious” injury in training after the loanee was absent from today’s defeat to Middlesbrough.

“Harry, in the dying seconds of training, got an injury. I didn’t want to speak too much about it straight after training because there was no assessment yet about it,” the Belgian boss said.

“But it looks to be serious and that he will be out for a long time. He’s on loan from Man U so it’s also important to speak with them first before speaking to the outside world.”

Further tests are needed to confirm the extent of the injury – but Clement cut a solemn figure while addressing the situation, with little expectation of a return anytime soon for the youngster.
